Be XXX-extra careful of your fancy camera in Saigon - the local motorbike thieves love to come up behind photographers and rip off both the camera and part of your shoulder before speeding away. I've never heard of similar problems in Hanoi.
Sapa in the NW Highlands is a photographer's dream.
I think I'm doing that sort of trip as you doing as well, but unfortunately I'm doing in Cambodia. Obviously, it sounds interesting to join together and spend time hanging out together.
My favorite itinerary to enjoy the night life in Phnom Penh, enjoying the night club and royal palace. Then I would extend my trip to the Northern of the country for the exclusive trek in the forest to see the indigenous people and great wildlife in their natural habitat. I heard it's called Gibbon Spotting Cambodia. It sounds great to me, basically.
