First time travelling India/Thailand/Cambodia and my dates are from early July for about 6 weeks, Starting in mumbai, heading south- almost the circumfurence around india. To then fly over to bangkok then slowly on to cambodia and possibly the phillipinnes if budget will allow. I just want any help or advice about the monsoon from previous travellers and all different books are telling me quite different things about the infamous monsoon. Thanks!
I've been in India during monsoon and all I can say is be prepared to get really, really wet. A good rain cover for your backpack and a travel umbrella is essential. Choose your footwear carefully too.
That said, it's kinda fun. Way fewer tourists, cheaper prices everywhere, etc. Just be prepared... packing super light makes things way easier and protecting your electronics/camera gear is essential...
Have fun.
Cheers,
Terry
Have you experienced much travelling during it, are the train schedules any different at all that you know of, I'm starting to feel like i'm going at the wrong time.
Thanks so much for the help though!
Be prepared to throw your itinerary out the window. Flooding causes all kinds of havoc. Some places are bad (Mumbai, Kolkata) while others much less so (Delhi, Bangalore, Chennai.)
Good time to invest in a water resistant camera!
Honestly though, get your head around the wetness... you can deal with it - countless local people do - but as a traveller it can wear you down unless you're prepared.
Cheers,
Terry
Ha ha the wetness is sounding not so good at the minute, i think as its my first time out there its going to be a complete shock for me so i want to experience it without having to deal with something as large as a monsoon haha- if you can't already tell i'm a massive rookie at travelling out of europe!
I had planned cambodia-thailand-ko samui and islands too but i just can't find any information with aproximate dates when monsoon hits them too.
Thanks for the knowledge!!
Ben,
Here are monthly averages for Thailand. If you scroll down, you will see Koh Samui has less rain and later in the year than most other locations. Much less than Phuket for comparison. Good luck with your planning.
