Nervous to travel alone!

Hey,

Messaged you

Africa is not so well travelled but lots of tourists in the other places and easy to travel about.

Africa is the only place I'd book with a company. The others are very easy to do yourself, booking travel and accommodation online beforehand so it's all lined up. Why pay someone else to do it?

I very much doubt you'll have a problem with meeting other travellers in Australia, NZ and Thailand etc. When i've stayed in hostels before its been practically impossible to not make friends. You will love it!

As for Africa, and like Cyberia said, not as well travelled but theres more than likely going to be tourists around.

Hi when are you thinking of going?
Im heading out to Thailand starting in Bangkok end of March/ start of April!
I really cant wait but like you little apprehensive of doing it alone even though I have no problem making friends!

dont be to concerned with using a gap year company for a first time trip.

i would even advise it for first time travellers, or going to a completely new culture for the first time.
they will offer you a lot of knowlege about that culture and provide a safety net. after you have been with them on a trip, you will then be able to easily go of on your own as you will already be accustomed to 'traveling'.

as for traveling alone, i spent a year, living of my guitar and a small backpack, as i hitched around europe and america. i have spent a lot of time alone on the road, and it is very tough.

but saying that, it was fantastic for learning.

-Traveling alone. A journey of self learning.
when i hitched alone, because of all the time i spent waiting by the side of a road, or walking, i found myself thinking about things, A LOT.
i would analyse things, think about past experiences, and the amount i learnt about my own mind was amazing

-Traveling with people. A journey of spirit and outward learning.
at times i would encounter other travellers and we would hitchhike together. this was a whole new dynamic, as there was never a moment of boredom and i had someone to share thoughts with.
you learn new things together, and thus can evaluate them together.
most importantly, is you have someone to share the tough times with.

I believe the whole debate of travel alone/together, is completely down to personal preference. one is not better than the other.
It all comes down to what you want out of your travel experiences
