Hey to all
Followup.
Acccommodations in Indian metros is generally very expensive - and ranges from USD 500 (for a 5 stars) to $60 (one star). But, if you are staying in small towns and dont mind the noise and dont ind roughing it (open windows, a few mosquitos, no shower or hot water, shared toilet etc.), you can find a place for 10-15 dollars a day. But, what is acceptable to you depends on where you are coming from.
Book before travel. Never let the small town touts "help" you find a place to stay! People are generally friendly and helpful, but slways looking to make a buck. So, watch out.
Hope this helps.
