can somebody please reccomend which backpack to buy for a years trip in oz?

hi, after extensive research I ended up purchasing the osprey farpoint 55. I haven't received it yet and I don't know anything about you but from what I've seen/read it looks like the perfect backpack for me. I chose it because it's front loading- meaning I won't have to dig through everything to get to something at the bottom of my bag, and because 15 of it is actually a detachable day pack. not sure what you're looking for but i think it's worth looking in to!

I am off to oz for a year. I got my backpack from north face. It is a holdall and backpack in one. Looks sturdy and a decent size to fit my stuff in. Its also bright green so it stands out :-) (they do have other colours)
They do have different styles and options, suppose its just a case of looking around for one you like

I think I am going to purchase a Lowe alpine kongur 65 75 as its a decent size & looks good & strong. Best thing to do is go & look in shops like go outdoors, blacks, Cotswolds... Have a good look at them & try some on & then purchase it online cheaper.
I am also going to buy a north face jester ruck sack for day trips etc.

I just got a vango freedom 60+20 it has a main 60l bag and a 20l bag that is attached that can be used for daytrips/hand luggage. And it also has an 'airline cover' that goes over the bag straps that means that the straps don't get caught on the conveyor belts when being taken to the plane.

I was wandering this. I have a decent front-opening bag but think I will need to take more than a bag can hold. Would it be a bad idea to take a suitcase?
Travelling indefinitely via hotels/hostels through warmish climates you can easily get by with a 40 litre carry-on size backpack with lots of room left over.
That's including a set of nice clothes to crash an Embassy party or high-end club, normal day-to-day casual wear, beach clothes, personal hygiene products and everything else you need to be safe/comfortable plus a netbook/tablet, digital still/video package and all the peripherals.

Alix @ #6: What in the world are you bringing that requires a backpack AND a suitcase? Do you really want to drag that much stuff around?!
Terry - not planning on taking both haha, one or the other but not sure which one would be better! Suitcase would have more room - easier to move until I start travelling, but I am not planning on doing much travelling and think I will have a more permanent location. I take it you would advice the back-bag?
If you're not travelling then it doesn't really matter what you take... a suitcase, large backpack, duffel bag, etc... anything will be fine.
If you're travelling then a carry-on size backpack (about 40 litres max) has loads of room and makes travel simple and easy. Lugging around a monster backpack is (in my opinion) insane.
