Australia? February? Anyone?

Hello,

Hi,

I'm thinking about going to Australia in march and spend about 2 months traveling and probably work something to (if I can get a working visa). But I'm really nervous to do this on my own, all my friends have a boyfriend or they're just not interested in traveling. I recently graduated from college so I really want to travel before I go to university.. But I would love to go if I could meet someone who's willing to travel with me!

Hiya. I am in the same boat as you fly out in 3 weeks time (20th feb to Perth) little bit nervous but mainly excited. I have pretty much everything sorted other than insurance. Do you have a return flight booked? Not many insurance companies cover you unless your trip starts and ends in the uk so make sure you read the small print. I don't know any vital things you should pack other than the obvious but from speaking to other girls they all say not to take heels as no girls wear them out there. Where are you flying to?

Wow im so unorganised - I depart for Sydney on a working holiday visa on 27th February and still need to sort Insurance, hostel, tax file number and bank acct - how did you get your tax file number?

You can't get a tax file number until you're physically in Australia. Once you are, it's a simple process of filling in the online forms (down for maintenance at the time of writing, but should be up again soon). See for more information.

No need to open a bank account until you're there, either. When you are, within your first few weeks of arriving in the country, walk into any bank branch with your passport and AUD $50 for an initial deposit, tell them not to send you bank statements, and give them your hostel's address for your debit card (which'll arrive a few days to a week later). Then you online banking to transfer money from home to your Australian bank (or ask a family member to do this).
