Serious drug convictions (most spent) (6 yrs imprisonment - never spent) stopping me from travelling / getting working visas etc to a great deal of countries. The conviction was in 1995. No convictions since. I am told this is never spent. I really don't know who to turn to or what to do as I would very much like to work abroad. Since then I have become a professional , sat and passed several professional IT exams, own a house , married and have a son. So I clas s myself a rehabilitation and reformed...

Ops.. Sorry I my post go submitted before I completed it. I need to know how to go about getting (and also my chances) a visa to visit New Zealand and the likes. I do not believe these countries will allow me to visit / get a work permit. I am looking for someone to point me in the right direction. I have looked into it and it appears that I have to go to the Embassy in question and in person. I live in Jersey, so travelling to London to visit Embassies is a costly.

The info you require is easily obtained from the websites of the countries you're interested in visiting. In the case of New Zealand you're inadmissible - they won't allow entry to anyone who has served more than 5 years of jail time and they don't care when it happened or if the record has been expunged.
For the US and Canada there are criminal rehabilitation options. The paperwork is somewhat cumbersome, but since 10+ years have passed since your last conviction and you've been an upstanding citizen since you may qualify, although the excessive prison time is worrisome.
In any case every country handles this differently so you need to separately research every country that you're interested in.

We you say "served more that 5 yrs" does this mean convicted to more than 5yrs? I served 3ys and 2 months of my 6yr sentence. Not sure if that will go for anything?

I don't know where New Zealand draws the line between "prison sentence imposed" and "time actually served."
They state that you are inadmissible for a visa, "... if you have been convicted and sentenced to imprisonment for 5 years or more..." (And yes, that applies even if any of your offences have later been taken off the record.)
