Hey all. Recently decided to take an extended sabbatical from work to do some much anticipated traveling. I'd like to start with Australia first, thinking about heading over mid-March. No real time table but would take at least 4 weeks. I think I'd explore the East Coast, start in Sydney and work my way up north along the coast. I'm a guy, 49 and single and will probably be traveling alone. Would be really great if anyone has some general tips on a couple of topics (and any other topics anyone might want to weigh in on!). First I've never really traveled by myself and so what's the best way to meet folks along the way. I'm comfortable financially so probably don't want to do the hostel route, but I fear staying in nicer hotels or renting a house would prevent me from getting to know the locals and other travelers. Im a pretty social guy. Second should I book tours ahead of time (I'm thinking either day tours or maybe 2,3 or 4 day excursions). I assume tours are a good way to meet other folks. I know this question is pretty broad but I'm just starting to plan and find it a little overwhelming. Thanks in advance for any advice - it will all be useful..
