I think the decision is very straightforward and it comes down to one question that only you can answer: What's your budget and how much time do you have?
If you have lots of time and money then why not include Canada and the US... if you're not loaded and don't have all the time in the world then go straight to SE Asia.
Simple.

Or... you can try to visit the Philippines! Pretty cheap, world class, English is widely known there and you can even do lots of water activities!
Just pack light and enjoy the journey!
Also, when traveling and no idea where to stay, you can always use -snip- as a guide on where to stay. You can even compare hotel rates and stuff.
