Im planning to go to Oz on a working holiday visa in November 2013, i've already checked out flights etc from Glasgow to Brisbane and its roughly £580 one way, I was just wondering should I buy my visa now? book flights etc now or wait a few months, closer to the time?
Also any other tips would be great, is Brisbane a good place to go first? I heard it wasn't too bad to get a job there although I don't have much experience as I'v tried to concentrate on uni for the last 4 years rather than a job, will this impact me getting a job?
Personally I wouldn't start in Brisbane in November if you plan to stick around there for a while to work; December is the start of what further north is the wet season (which will last up to March), and cause either horrible humidity down in Brisbane, or heavy rains, sometimes (as is happening right now, actually) leading to flooding.
As for plane tickets: I don't expect they'll get much cheaper than they are now, so you might as well buy early. WHV doesn't really matter when you buy it; it's good for up to a year to enter Australia (and then lasts a year from the moment of entry), and is generally approved within a day, so getting it anytime between now and mid-October would be good.
Hey
You should get your visa approved before booking your flights just incase something comes up on it. Personally I would book a return, australia need to either see a departure date or enough money to buy a return ticket extra in your savings. I'm booking (once passport / visa get finished) an outbound and then booking a return for one year after as all flight companies allow you to have a year to use your return ticket. You usually have to put in a return date earlier than planned but then tell them to move it at time of booking to the latest you can do on your year.
Hope this helps I was completely lost with what to do but slowly found out all the information!!
In terms of work you should be fine, you prob wont be able to get anything like farm hand or office as they tend to want experience but for fruit picking / bar work you shouldnt have a problem
Thank you. Where would you suggest to start? It was only brisbane because we had heard it wasn't bad for jobs etc compared to Sydney and we had friends over there just now so we could sleep off the jet lag etc before heading to a hostle for a bit (I'm going as part of a couple).
Yeah I was looking at only a one way because this far in advance they dont have return dates. I'm thinking I will apply for the visa in march.. Get that approved (as you say incase anything goes wrong haha but there hopefully isn't a problem) and then book flights in april time!
Hopefully a job won't be a problem.. I'm not fussy for what I do. I do have some office experience but I'd much rather a bar/restaurant job or something. But as I sa, not fussy! When is it you travel?
