Taking a kayak across borders

diasaurus has indicated that this thread is about Mexico

I sent you a PM as I found something but on a forum and I didn't like to post it here. It seems that under 4.5 meters and not a titled (registered) craft, no problem.

The problem is usually returning home with high end equipment, at least in Canada! You can register the boat at your own customs department just prior to crossing the border or have the original bill of sale... This proves you had the kayak before leaving the country and they will not apply any import duties on it when you come back in.

Last time I looked was when I wanted to import a very light folding kayak from New Zealand. The customs duties on kayak was 8-12% for importing into Canada, for kayaks not manufactured in Canada, US, or Mexico.... Customs tables are a very boring read!

Note. Sites on RVs maybe helpful as they cross border with lots of equipment...
