Chelle,
I'm heading over in October for 6 months with a small group on a WHV. We are newbys at travelling so any tips on the below would be brilliant:
- Work
- Accomodation
- Getting around
- Locations / Hot spots
Below is the route we are wanting to take:
- Perth (Looking to work here for 1 month)
- Melbourne
- Sydney
- Anywhere else after that around Aus
- 1 month to end in New Zealand
Hope to hear from you soon
Ben

Hey Ben
Sorry it took me a while to get back to you!
Work - The best places to look for work is Sydney and Melbourne, they say you either like one or the other...personally i love Melbourne! Best types of work are call centre & data entry..best way to get it is to sign up to all recruitment places and get your cv ready to be sent off. If you are looking for farm work to get the second year visa, my suggestion is DO NOT leave it to last minute because it is unpredictable at the best of times and isnt that easy to find. gumtree and hostel work offices that you can talk to are best places.
answers are quite long winded sorry!!
Accomodation - hostel bookers best way to find them. ask around and book only few days at new place so if not good one can move on with out losing to much money. then book for week or two when no your good. Perth i stayed in place called leadersville - one stop from CBD place called beatie lodge (cant spell) but alot of people stay in fremantle. MElbourne best hostels are space hotel, urban central or habitat i would say. sydney i didnt like any hostels but i didnt like sydney as i said before you like melbourne or sydney!
getting around. - perth has smart riders, melbourne have myki cards - basically they are oyster cards you have in london. best way to do it because then you dont have to worry bout which zones your going into etc and getting correct value ticket on trains, buses, trams.
personally i love Victoria..but where ever you go look into tours etc and then see if can get a car and do the beauty places yourself because then you can go at your own pace my advice.
hope this helps..any more i can help you with give us email

Chelle that advice was so helpful, I'm going out in 8 months and worried about hostels / jobs etc. I have my first month n a half planned accommodation (crashing with my brother haha) but need to find work asap as I'm not actually going out with much money!
no problem suzy ...if you got any further questions just let me no because i remember before the first time i went trying to find answers and get prepared and its a very scary but exciting experience.
my facebook name is michelle adams (ben or suzy) more then welcome to add and keep in touch further. Sometimes hard to find though so if it easier give me your full name and ill search you instead!
cheers
