Pinnacles National Park -- America's newest

Pinnacles National Park--located 1 hour east of Carmel, California (and only 20 minutes east, off the main route 101 between northern and southern California), has just been named the newest of America's now 59 national parks. This is the first new national park since 2004 when Great Sandy Dunes in Colorado was designated a national park.

Found some amazing pictures of some of the main trails--see below (note--all three of the trails shown here are only available by accessing Pinnacles from the east side--via Hollister).

It still is only about a 1 1/2 hour trip from Carmel each way--and there are two wineries on these roads (Pietra Santa and Leal) worth the trip also.

I presume there are some somewhat interesting trails on the west side also.

Had to post one last tidbit of information that someone sent to me about Pinnacles:

Pinnacles National Park has the greatest number of bee species per unit area of any place ever studied. The roughly 400 bee species are mostly solitary; they don't live in hives
