Hi,
how did it look on gmaps?
This location is 2 miles from downtown and 6 1/2 miles from the Palm Springs Tramway. Be aware that this is in the desert and while the time to visit is in February, the mountains are not like the mountains you are thinking about back home. The mountains here are not ones you can easily hike in without a guide--and they only have trees at the top of the mountains--not anywhere near the base of the mountains. (It actually is better to hike the desert and see the great wildlife there--at least in February when the temperature will be in the 70s--don't try it in July when the temperatures will be in the 120s.)
In February, the mountains at the top will be way too cold to hike in without extremely warm weather clothing--also people go up to the top all the time and then think they will take a short hike--and end up freezing to death when they can't find their way back to the restaurant at the top of the tram and the temperature drops into the 10s and 20s.
Another thing. This particular location is at the end of the Palm Springs Airport's runway. Now there are very few planes that fly in and out each day--so this is not that bad a thing--but be aware that it will get noisy here at least a few times each day.
Palm Springs and Palm Desert are fabulous resorts--and February is the best time, but going there without a car is ridiculous. LA and the area around LA (including Palm Springs) is only accessible by car. Distances from one place to another are huge (20 miles to go most anywhere--10 miles minimum to get there and 10 to get back, and Palm Springs is about 110 miles from Los Angeles itself. But with a car this could be a fantastic vacation, especially if you like spending time at the pools, great golfing, desert vistas and hikes, a trip to the local mountains near San Bernardino (Lake Arrowhead), or a trip to Joshua Tree National Park and it has very good restaurants and great hotels.
Enjoy your trip.
Here's one of the best places to visit while in Palm Springs:

Note that it is about 16 miles away from where you are planning to stay.
Thanks.
I've been offered another place in "La Quinta cove". I can't even find it on the map! Half a block from trails.
Which is better, Palm springs or La Quinta cove?
Mountains in La Quinta seem small...I like big mountains...just like to be around nature and trails
1.) "... I don't like driving..."
Too bad. All the cool stuff means a drive. Suck it up.
2.) "... I like big mountains..."
There are none. You like big ones then come on up and visit me in Banff.

Good luck figuring out something that works for you.
Cheers,
Terry
Let me explain. You need to get an actual address so we know where they are offering you to stay.
Lots of times, they will name a housing subdivision after an upscale area (like La Quinta, San Moritz, or Beverly Hills) and then you'll go there and find you are miles away from the actual city they refer to. It's a marketing ploy.
Now, if they place they are offering you is near La Quinta, then you are a long ways from Palm Springs (about 25 miles) but it's an area with a lot of famous golf courses (the PGA West course is located here--and it is ranked as the toughest course to play in the entire country). Also, be aware the golf courses cover an area of about 5 miles long by 3 miles wide. Only difficulty is that there are only a few places to eat, and many of these might be expensive. It is easy to get to the trails from here, so that's the good news.
Let us know what you find out about an address--and check back with us for more information on that location.

Thanks very much!
I moved in to day to Cross streets Via Esquela/Farrell , Palm springs.
She said not on flightpath but taxi on the way there confirmed there are planes.
I was figuring that's why she is unable to let it, as the interior looked good in pics......I was right!
Very loud planes every 5 mins.
But. I was in shorts, barefeet and topless today in the sandy garden, at about 80 degrees! (I am male). (In Redding it is about 60 and non stop rain)
Great close Mountain view from my south facing sandy porch.
No special anti noise glass...just hope the earplugs work when in bed in the morning.
She told me to get 2 buses to Taqoitz, then go on a trail from there..she said there's a big waterfall somewhere.
I will go up the aerial tramway twice a week, will stay in restaurant the whole time...3 hours.
She said something about Palm Canyon.
It's a fabulous s/c studio. The only drawback is the planes. There was nothing else on offer and only 2 weeks or so.
Alas, I am only here for 2 weeks and 3 days.
I could hire an out of work person to be a p/t driver, (using their car), ...to take me to nature locations and collect me 4-5 hours later...that's what I did in Redding before the weather suddenly changed.
Any nature suggestions appreciated.
Thanks in advance!
Correction, it is 50 in Redding where I have just come from. I return London UK 26 Feb
