long distance travel within south america

Hi!
I'm arriving in Colombia june 2nd and need to be in Cuzco, Peru june 12th. Is it possible to do that by bus and still get to see some of Colombia (like, are there many overnight buses so I can spend my day doing other stuff)? Or is flying really my best option though it's pretty expensive. I find it hard to find out just how the buses run, what my best route would be and especially if they travel overnight as well.

You don't really see that much by buses, other than often bland countryside, and from night buses you don't see anything, other than maybe being stopped by soldiers searching for drugs. Flights are best booked before arrival in the country, though for June I would have booked in March so to have a chance of getting cheap fares.

Colombia is rather a big place. Where are you travelling from? You would probably need to change buses in Ecuador for Peru. You can travel down through Chile by bus. I seem to remember a journey time of 30 hours from Lima to Santiago and that the short hop on the plane did not cost much extra than the bus. Then you can cut across country to Buenos Aires.

A number of tourists to Peru merely pass through Lima which is a pity since it has a fair bit worth seeing including a number of excellent museums:
