I.m a very young 56 year old divorce and have a 26 year old son. I.m justb taking some time out to enjoy life and love travelling and meating new people. A Thai visa obtained from a Thai embassy outside of Thailand lasts for 2 months. You can get a one month visa extension for 1900 baht from a number of places in Thailand. If you fly out on a short trip (AirAsia and other companies are cheap), you will then get another 30 day visa exemption on arrival.
The rainy season (already started) in Thailand ends sometime in October and then month by month it starts getting hotter till the end of April.
You can rent an apartment but usually need to pay 2 months deposit which you get back when you leave. You have to pay water and electricity also.
Don't leave your planning till too late as lots and lots of people fly there and winter in Thailand. I was there earlier this year and it was very busy. Even now, people are starting to book flights and accommodation.
Just one warning. Do be careful of pick pockets, especially in Bangkok.
