East Coast of America

We are travelling to the East Coast this summer on a roadtrip for two months starting in Boston. We will have our two young children (four and two) with us and have hired an SUV to travel around. We are doing a mixture of cities, the coast and the mountains in Virginia.

Our worry is drivng to cities and parking. At the moment we are planning to park in Hotels in NY, Washington, Toronto and Philadelphia. I know this is expensive, and probably stressful, although we do have some experience of driving in America.

I think with all that baggage and children, if you can afford it, you should park in the hotels in the cities you mentioned. They do have park and rides in Washington DC and you could park in Brooklyn or Queens while in NYC, but then you're going to be worrying about your car the whole time (not to mention lugging all that stuff onto public transit). Sounds like a nightmare! Philadelphia is a smaller city and it might be feasible to find street parking there.

Have fun on your trip - that region, especially Virginia, is lovely!
