Suggestions/buddies for Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos and Thailand

Hey guys, Im going to Thailand in the beginning of August and I pretty much know where I want to visit. However, Im thinking of visiting Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam too, but was wondering where the best places to visit within these countries are?

It depends on what you like to do on holidays.

In Cambodia you must visit Siem Reap for the Angkor Wat ruins. By all means go to the usual sites and take the usual photographs but better still hire a local taxi, take advice from your hotel. There are hundreds of temples in Angkor Wat many of them not overrun with tourists so they are quiet and peaceful. Go early in the morning or in the evening for that great ‘golden hour’ glow as the sun rises or sets and casts a warm light and long shadows over the landscape.

For beach resorts then Sihanoukville, Kep or Kho Kong. Quieter than Thailand’s beach resorts but the seas are clean and the beaches are not crowded.

Then there is the sleep town of Batdambang retaining its French colonial atmosphere.

When in Laos try what must be the regions smallest capital city Vientiane, with its 30 sets of traffic lights. Sitting on the banks of the Mekong drinking in the view of Thailand across the broad, lazy Mekong at dusk is an utter delight.

Other places to visit Luang Prahang, and Vien Veng. But venture south and you will be rewarded with violet-blue mountains and spectacular waterfalls and people less used to travellers than in the north of the country. An experience that you will not forget.

Don’t know much about Vietnam sorry.

in laos:

vang vieng for tubing and beautifully scenery.
luang prabang: water falls and elephants.

in vietnam:

saigon: museums, cheap beers(bia hoi), lot of night life and the street food's amazing!
mui ne: it's a really really quiet beach town, not really my cup of tea, you can fall asleep standing here.
nha trang: one of my most favorite city in the world...beautiful beaches, nightlife, food, diving, boat trips. everything a backpacker can wish for.
hoi an: beautiful little classical town.
cat ba island: if you have a group of friends, this place is peaceful and really fun!

in cambodia:

it's pretty standardize here...killing field and angkor wat.

btw. i'm landing in saigon on july 8th, and i'll be going north, then cross over into laos, cambodia, then finally thaialnd! hope that helps, pm me if you need suggestions one where to stay and drinks, etc. good luck

peter

Tubing - hmm be careful and check your travel insurance to make sure that if anything goes wrong when you jump into that tube you are safe. So many people have accidents doing this and find themselves in an expensive private hospital in Thailand and the insurance company refuses cover.

Hi,

I'm landing in Bangkok on 5th Sept, travelling around Thailand for a month on my own. Will anyone be there at this time? First time travelling and a bit scared of going alone!

Collette
