Hey Guys,
I am planning on travelling to Melbourne late August, possibly to work with horses. As the date is getting closer,I am getting a severe case of cold feet!!! Its been my dream to go travelling for a long time, but I think I'm so nervous as I'm going alone. As soon as I land over ther I wont have a clue what to do next, and afraid i'll be lonely, homesick and wont make any friends!!! Really dont want to chicken out and end up regretting it!! Any advice much appreciated!!-Karen
Aww, I'm kinda in the same boat. I'm doing a 9 month trip (of which I'm 2 weeks into!) all by myself. You'll make friends really easily! My tip would be just to book a hostel for the first few days to give yourself a start, and then just take the rest as it comes!
I'll actually be in Melbourne from November til about March and won't know anyone either. I'd be more than happy to have someone to meet up with!
Most people who have been travelling alone will sympathise with you, I know I do. I felt exactly the same way when I landed in Sydney - after arriving at my 'free' (see cockroach-infested, grime-ridden hellhole) accomodation, I felt like getting on the first plane back to the UK.
Whatever you do, don't do this - give everyone or everywhere a 'fair go' as the aussies call it and you'll soon find yourself having so much fun you won't want to leave.
hey im also hitting melbourne in jan 2012 and im in a similar boat, as in going alone, but everybody has been telling me that its no big deal going on your own. do you plan on working in melbourne?
Darren
I've been in Melbourne for about 6 yrs studying. I'm happy to provide a local contact or if you need help/suggestions/recommendations. Can't travel much, but can meet up.
cheers,
Kaz
Hey I know how you feel, I go to Melbourne in 17 days!! I'm going alone too, I need to book a hostel for when I get there, but ive kinda figured I have nothing to stay for so I might as well just go out there and see how it goes. Also I lost my job a few months ago so I dont have anywhere near as much money as what I planned which is worrying me a bit. But at the moment my excitement is out weighing the fear of it, but I can't wait.

Hey Dom how you getting on so far???Would be really cool to meet up!!
Rubyjock-I keep telling myself I have to give it a chance, its always easier to think what will go wrong instead of what will go right!!!
Hey Darren,
Yes i'm planning on working there for a while to get a bit more money behind me. I work race horses at home and i've heard its pretty easy to get jobs working in yards over there so fingers crossed!!What are your plans??
