Hi
Caroline,
I would buy your VN visa in Vientiane. Your guesthouse/hotel will arrange it for you for a small fee. Or go over to the VN Embassy yourself. Fast costs more when buying a VN visa. Allow a few days if you want to save some money.
Above post only applies to those flying into VN. Overland visitors must have their VN in hand when they hit the border. Good luck with your planning.
Hi
Thanks for getting back to me. In the end I went to a travel company called Sawadee in Bangkok and a girl there helped me sort out my Vietnam visa in advance and also changed my route She advised me to go Bangkok>Cambodia>Vietnam>Laos back to Thailand.
Had a nightmare crossing the border from Thailand to Cambodia - but currently halfway through Vietnam now so all's good

Caroline,
It sounds like the Poipet crossing. Infamous for scams, overcharging, delays. I urge you to write to the Tell them what a bad impression it leaves on a visitor when you are overcharged and hassled trying to enter their country. It is the only way the visa process might improve one day. Mike
I am planning a trip to Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam next month..
I am close to booking my ticket although while asking for information they 'almost' forced' me to obtain a VISA for Vietnam in advance...
In one of my earlier topics it is already been said that arranging a VISA in P-P Cambodja is not a problem.. And now VegasMike mention Vientiane as well..
Can it be 100% guaranteed I will be able to cross the Cambodia-Vietnam over land border when I do not got a VISA in advance according to both your experiences?
Thanks!
Frensky,
VN is the only country that you will visit that requires you to buy a visa BEFORE you arrive at their border. Laos and Cambodia will sell you a visa on arrival. Not VN. Phnom Penh is the cheapest, fastest place to buy your VN visa. Buy it there before you take the bus to VN.
You DO NOT need to buy your VN visa when you buy your airfare. This is assuming you will visit Laos & Cambodia before VN. If you are flying directly into VN, then, yes, you need to have your VN visa before boarding your flight. You can buy a visa on arrival if you fly into VN. I did this several years ago and wrote about in .
Hope this helps with your planning.
It certainly helps..
In my planned itineray I had to pass through Phnom Penh anyhow.. So that is going to be a win-win situation..
Thanks..
