I'm a graduate student going to a conference at the end of June in Crete but I have 9 days to island hop before I fly out of Athens. Do you have any advice on what definitely to do and what islands to see (in what order)? I think I should plan for at least 2 days once I get to Athens but there are so many choices, I don't know what to do or how long to dpend on each island. Should I book ferries ahead of time? Hostels? Thanks in advance for any tips.
If you've got plenty of cash go for Crete-->Santorini-->Mykonos-->Athens.
If you haven't and you want to party go for Crete-->Ios-->Naxos-->Athens.
If you want quiet and picturesque, plenty of choices, but how about Crete-->Paros-->Folegandros-->Athens.
Best to book ferries at least a few days in advance if poss. End of June it might be starting to get a little busy. It isn't usually necessary to book ahead though, you'll usually be met at the port by someone offering reasonably priced accomodation.
I absolutely agree with Magykal 1. Ios is amazing!!
Thanks magykal1 and Rgodwin1! I appreciate your suggestions and feedback. Can you give me a hint of how much the ferries cost one-way? I've looked at several websites but all are so confusing for me.
