travel to korea from japan

I am a US citizen currently in Japan with my wife for the summer and we are planning a trip to China, Taiwan, then Korea, and finally back to Japan. Our tickets to china and taiwan were purchased using mileage, which routs us thru korea on our way back. Because of certain restrictions using the mileage tickets, they would not let us stay in Korea. So, we decided to just not board our final leg from korea to osaka and just stay in korea for a few days and buy another ticket out. As long as we bring proof of our ticket back out, can anyone think of any reason why we cant do this? Also, my wife is a Japanese citizen by the way.

As U.S. and Japanese citizens, I doubt they'll hassle you. But if they do, you can always just hop on that connecting flight to Osaka.

BTW, there are daily ferries from Busan, Korea to ports in Japan. It might be an interesting alternative to flying, for about the same price. Just a suggestion.
