Hey,
hi,
It takes about an hour to go from the airport to Termini (the main station) in Rome. If memory serves me correctly, trains run about every 30 mins but I don't know if they run for 24 hours. I am sure you can look up the timetable online. From Termini, most of the attractions such as the Coliseum and Trevi Fountain are within walking distance (I would allow about 30 mins to walk to the Coliseum from Termini). I suggest you pick up a map of Rome either at the airport or Termini. The Vatican is probably too far to walk but you can always take a taxi.
Good Luck
Yes! Definitely use those 14 hours to take the train from the airport to the Roma Termini. The trains run constantly and are inexpensive.
From the Termini you can walk to the Coliseum (about a 15 minute walk) or over to the Piazza Navona area for a snack or to the Piazza del Popolo area near the Borghese Gardens for a leisurely stroll. It's such a walkable city if you're up for it! Or take the subway (or a taxi, but those are expensive) over to the Vatican!
Do it!
