I will be in Shanghai on Oct. 20. It's my first time there, can anyone please help me...what tourist spots must I see in Shanghai...I'l be there for only 3 days and I wanted to maximize my stay..Thank you..
Not really a lot there but it's a good place to walk around. A number of museums there, some temples, YuYuan Garden (which is worth a visit). Pick up a card with your hotel name and address on it in Chinese and when you want to return, show it to a taxi driver and it won't cost much to get back there. There is a main shopping street there which leads to the Bund, by the river, which really comes alive at night.
Beggar children were a nuisance when I was last there. Ignore them.

If someone asks if you want to come see a tea ceremony, turn around and walk quickly away. This is a scam where you drink a few cups of tea in a cafe then they stick you with a bill for a huge sum like maybe $60 to $80.
The French Concession is an interesting area to walk around for a few hours. You can get a good view of the city from Jinmao tower in Pudong - be prepared to queue.
You could also do an excursion for a day to Hangzhou, where you can hire a bike and cycle round the lake, to Suzhou or to one of the canal towns; I went to Zhujiajiao which was worthwhile.

Not much to see. It's a city... But it's Shanghai, nice to make a statement that you have beem there. What to do in 3 days?
I have been there 4 times, 1. Everyone goes to the Bund, so it's definitely on your to do list. You'll see buildings and thousands of Chinese tourist taking photos in this iconic site...
2. If it's your 1st time in China, you'll love it.
3. Shanghai for me and other people is about going to bars and clubs...
4. EATING... and may cruise in the river.

importance: consume trick are everywhere if you are defenseless, particularly on young ladies...

I live in Shanghai... I agree with all the suggestions in Montana's list and would add:
The Shanghai World Financial Tower - clear day, stunning building, with glass floor about 80 floors up, and when walking along the Bund, try and make it a weekday and go into the banks - they are truly stunning. As are the newly renovated hotels - the Peace Hotel and the Waldorf Astoria.
I highly recommend Lost Heaven on the Bund for a delicious (if a bit exxy) meal of Yunnan cuisine. I've got loads of food recommendations.
And at the other end of the spectrum for cheap and cheerful, Di Shui Dong - but be ready to blow steam out of your ears, very hot and spicy!
Fake shopping is also readily available at the market near the Science and Technology Museum (and a dozen other places), just be prepared to bargain - my rule of thumb is to offer a third to a quarter of the asking price, and depending on how much I want something pay up to a half!
Another interesting thing to see is the China Pavillion from last years expo.
October is a good time to come as the stink and sweat of summer has passed, and it is not yet cold cold! There are loads of parks to explore, and the French Concession is well worth a wander!
You'll love it here, I think it's a great place to visit!!
