Thailand is likely the easiest "foreign" country in the world for a western backpacker. The country is VERY popular and if you stick to the usual guide book places you'll find it absolutely jam-packed with other travellers exactly like you. It's the perfect destination for a first time solo backpacker who needs to build a little confidence.

no need to worry as there are so many lone travellers like you in thailand. if you dont have a fixed plan, then you can just go along with other people you meet on the way. bangkok is big and chaotic, but look closer you will see the charm and the peaceful that we do have...not during the traffic rush hour though. welcome to thailand
Thanks for replying people. I now feel ten times better about travelling on my own! I cant believe how many people have put up threads about backpacking to Thailand on there own, obviously a very popular place!

Hey! I'm also planning on going to Thailand on my own in Jan next year! I've never gone abroad on my own either but at least we wont be the only ones by the looks of it!

Hi honey! Im travelling to Thailand for 3 months too- when are you going? I think I have a flying buddy- one of my friends wants to come out but only for 2 weeks so I'll be alone too. And never been travelling at all before either xx

Here another one travelling alone for 1st time...and in SE Asia, OE OE OE!
Ill be landing in Bangkok on october the 11th, and trying to follow an events/festivals calendar, which im making right now.
Im planning to be in SE Asia for about 6 months, but ill see how long once im there.
So, if any of you will be there between october and summer 2012, let me know and we can plan something together.
