3 months ago, I booked a return flight with expedia uk, London to San diego. Plus about 10 domestic flights in US.
The last 2 flights have been cancelled by the airline, including my return flight to London.
Expedia say the airline who cancelled my flight is air france. On my records, the airline is delta.
Expedia/Delta/Air France cancelled my last 2 flights, including my return flight to London.
They will not re book my flight to London.
These are my flights, that I paid for 3 months ago, in good faith…I owned those seats.
They were cancelled without my knowledge or permission.
For 2 weeks expedia say, they are waiting to hear from the airline, re how much I will have to pay, to re book the flight. As if I will pay again for a flight I already paid for 3 months ago.
I found out, the reason the 2 flights were cancelled, was that I missed one of my 10 flights on my itinerary, flight no 8, so flights no 9 and 10 were cancelled.
So, say I missed flight no 2, the remaining 8 flights would be cancelled. I would have to pay again, to re book the 8 flights.
WHAT A RIP OFF.
Now, expedia know about this crazy rule, their customers don’t.
Expedia should inform their customers before they pay or at least in the confirmation email that;
“ if you do not do not turn up for any of your flights, all the remaining flights on your itinerary will be cancelled. You will have to pay again, to re book those flights.”
That is not on any of their emails.
Was that an oversight or a deliberate case of omission?
The answer is obvious.
Re the flight that I missed, I actually called expedia US. They said to call expedia uk. I said I did not want to call UK as I am in US.
He got my itinerey up. I said I want to change dates of the flight. He said it would cost $150-200.
I said, no way. I’m not going to use that flight, then.
He said, shall I cancel the flight?
I thought, the airline would sell my seat, and get paid twice. So I told him , no. The conversation ended.
What he should have said, was, I suggest you cancel the flight, as otherwise all your remaining flights will get cancelled, including your return flight to London. He did not tell me that.
Expedia Uk have no record of that conversation, as it was with US dept.
I have called expedia Uk three times from US to re book my return flight, often hanging on for 20 mins, paying $1.66 a minute…nothing after 2 weeks.
Expedia have ignored my last email about this matter….
This is a ruse, to get people to pay twice for one ticket.
I don’t see how they can legally steal my ticket, that I paid for….
Basically, I will have to pay again to get back to London.
On 26 Feb, the date I have to leave USA, the date my ticket was booked for, the cheapest flight is:
San Diego to London, 6.45 am aeroflot via Moscow, 2 stops 30 hours 25 mins $ 996. 30 hours!!
The flight I originally booked 3 months ago, and payed for, in good faith:
26 Feb San Diego to London Delta 3 pm, 1 stop 13 hours $1659 ( I only travel afternoons, hate early morning travel)
I don’t have the funds to pay either of these tickets.
I have been in US 3 months.
I have no money left.
The moral of this story is:
Stay away from expedia/delta/airfrance. THEY WILL RIP YOU BLIND. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.
You should look at the small print on your bookings to see exactly what it says about this case.
Even if the flights were cancelled, they cannot just steal the money you paid for them. Is there a local "no win-no fee" lawyer you can use? A legal letter may be enough to make these deadbeats pay up, and demand compensation.
I have used AirFrance a number of times without problems. Delta is a big airline too. I would think expedia is your problem. They are IATA and ATOL members so complain to those organisations.
I can imagine you are upset, but experienced travellers always know that if you book a flight package and miss a flight, your flights afterwards are no longer valid.
Some people here tried booking KLM flights, leaving from Brussels or Dusseldorf, and then show up in Amsterdam for their intercontinental flight: same thing.
Don't blame expedia/delta or whatever, you can blame yourself or learn from it.
You should have booked the flights separately, then it would have been ok. So an interncontinental return and then separate domestic flights.

So, you wanted to change one of your flights and the guy from Expedia told you the charge to do this (which is quite a normal practice). You changed your mind and said you weren't going to use the flight, but when asked by the guy from Expedia if you wanted to cancel that flight - you said no.
I really don't see how you can complain like this. You had the choice to pay to change the flight details, but changed your mind. You were offered to cancel the flight, but you refused. After deciding to decline the offer from Expedia to cancel the flight, you also didn't ask what would happen if you just didn't show up. You just presumed the airline would get "paid twice" and all would be ok.
"... The moral of this story is: Stay away from expedia/delta/airfrance. THEY WILL RIP YOU BLIND. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED..."
Actually, the moral of the story is that you have no clue how the rules/regulations regarding flights changes are applied and how there are always fees attached and how when you buy flights in packages they're always all tied together. Good luck at getting some compensation.
That said, I have to ask one question... why did you use a booking agent instead of the airline itself? I'm always curious why people choose that method...
Again, good luck.
Cheers,
Terry
