Travelling to Bangkok in September can anyone recommend a local place to stay that isn't to far so I can find my feet Asap, just landing and not knowing which way to go in Bangkok sounds like a knightmare so some advice would be very helpful

Interesting situation you are facing. But the reality is that you have to stay in any hotel.
Yer I thought that would be the case, but having to get a taxi to a certain destination would be a better start
Don't worry, Bangkok is not a nightmare. Actually a pretty awesome city. I would recommend booking your first couple nights in the Khao San area. It's not near the airport, but its really easy to get to - you have the airport shuttle which will take you right to the heart of the area, or a taxi, which is obviously more expensive, but compared to most cities in the world, still really cheap. Khao San is a good area to find your feet, book onward travel, see the sights of Bangkok, and figure out what you are doing.
For hotel help you should include a price range, use Thai baht.
Unless you arrive real late and have an early morning flight forget about staying near the airport. (Bangkok has 2 airports.) Suvarnabhumi has cheap rail service to get from the airport to the city area. Millions of tourists head for the city even when they have flights arriving around midnight. Bangkok is still a lively city even after 2 a.m. (Seven Eleven type stores open all night long for snacks, water and drinks.)
Khao San Road area is popular with young travelers, some things to walk to, cheap hotels - no cheap rail service.
Sukhumvit Road (Nana and Asoke area) has adult nightlife, cheap hotels, a few hostels, access for the Skytrain rail service, malls, street vendors and restaurants.
Pratunam/Siam area is popular with tourists who have an interest in shopping. Skytrain and Airport Rail Link in this area.
Hotel recommendations you get depend on how much you want to spend per night.

Suk 11 Hostel. (Nana area)
Nana Ibis. (Nana area)
Rambuttri Village Inn. (KSR)
D&D Inn. (KSR)
Makkasan Inn. (Pratunam area)
Do a forum search for hotels on this Asia forum. Hotels come up often. A laptop might work out better for forum searches than a phone. Some hotels will come up with a Google check, pull up the travel forums for less biased hotel reviews. There are old posts for using taxis in Bangkok that will come up with a forum search.
Skytrain connects to subway and Airport Rail Link.
You might want to research any visa requirements. (Depends on the passport you will travel with and how long you will be in Thailand.) If you are from a Western country and plan on staying longer than 30 days or do not have a round trip plane ticket (or flight out of the country in 30 days) you might have to buy a tourist visa ahead of time.
Most Western currencies get a better rate of exchange in Thailand than in another country. Do forum search for this too. (Bank money changers available at the airport 24 hours a day.)

That last thread was very helpful thank you spending a month in Thailand and will be heading south but ideally wanted to spend a few nights In Bangkok because let's face it I may not get the chance again 😊 khao San road I've heard plenty about so maybe that could be a could choice to start. I no where I'm going after Bangkok. It's just the whole getting of the plain and finding somewhere to crash

What time do you arrive at the airport? Suvarnabhumi or Don Muang?
- *If flying from Europe or N. America usually the primary airport - Suvarnabhumi is the airport you land at. But quite a few international flights do land at old Don Muang.
For Khao San Road unless something has changed recently I think you will have to pay for a meter taxi. Or play with Rail Link and then bus or taxi to save money. Arrive after midnight - meter taxi for sure!
For hotel info include price range. But to save time a forum search might also give you some KSR hotels and how to get there from Suvarnabhumi. (PC or tablet works better than smart phone for forum searches.)
If you qualify for for the free 30 day Visa Exemption stamp you get at the airport - count your days! It's 30 days or less and not by monthly increments.
Being an old fart sort of I prefer the Sukhumvit Nana area. When I arrive early enough at the airport I can use the Rail Link for 45 baht to Phaya Thai. Then about another 40 baht to get to Nana. Walk to many hotels from there. There used to be an Airport Express Bus to KSR but that stopped when the Rail Link began service.
Know how much per night your budget will allow for a hotel and then choose hotels that fit that amount of money.
Just looking through my flight info and it doesn't actually specifie which airport... Just Bangkok 😒 but I'll find out which one tomorrow so I'm more prepared. I arrive at 6:45pm which I suppose is a good time as it will be light. So is the rail link right outside the airport? So which area in Bangkok would suggest? I'm 24 and am looking for the good nights out (bars clubs) with shopping during the day isn't khao San road a bit outside of Bangkok?

BKK = Suvarnabhum Airport.
DMK = Don Muang Airport.
Airport Rail Link only at Suvarnabhumi. Follow signs. Bottom level of airport. Very easy to use.
No rail service to KSR. There is nightlife in Sukhumvit Nana area. You can reach the Nana area by Rail Link from Suvarnabhumi and switch to a Skytrain ride at Phaya Thai to Nana stop. Google up Nana nightlife to see if this is what you want. Various priced hotels in this area. Expensive nightclubs Google up Ratchada nightlife for more info.
Skytrain can take you to MBK, to Chatuchak WEEKEND Market. Get you closer to Pratunam shopping. Skytrain can take you to Patpong night market and nearby (expensive) Patpong nightlife. Sukhumvit Road has some street vendor shopping, several malls, supermarkets, good restaurants, etc.
KSR is an interesting part of Bangkok. Discount hotels, walk to some tourist sites. Do search for more KSR general tourist info for nightlife information.
Do a forum and Google search for scams to avoid in Bangkok. Some scams involve tuk-tuks, palace closed, buying gems and gold, Patpong bars and prices, etc.
