I've found 5 grey hairs so far!! Me and my boyfriend are in exactly the same position, quitting jobs and moving across the world for a year! (Also from UK)
We are flying out 20th September but staying in Adelaide until around the first week of November. We are house sitting as much as possible to save money it just means making friends though jobs or forums, we are going through -snip-... Maybe it's worth havin a look? (There is a charge to sign up though).
Hopefully our paths might cross!

Currently been weighting up Air Bnb verses renting a room somewhere, I'm worried about putting a bond down as I've heard horror stories of them being hard to get back!

That's who we are house sitting for in Adelaide, a lovely English woman coming back to the UK for the first time in years. We will be staying with a family friend near bronte beach when we move to Sydney. They have a granny flat we will be staying in but he said its quite small so after new year we might look at hostels on the other side of Sydney.
We haven't really looked into any other type of accommodation, within a week of signing up to the house sitters website we had arranged Adelaide, so it was really quick and easy. People usually put adverts on around two months before their holiday but I have seen a lot recently for Christmas in Sydney!

Sorry for the delay in responding. Beginning of the week is always a bit manic. Been looking at the house sitting site, it looks so promising thank you ever so much for telling me about it. Will save some valuable pennies.
If you don't mind me asking how old are you? My only worry is I feel I am going to be judged and lose out cause I'm young and a lot of home owners seem to be asking for "mature" couples.
We fly into Sydney on the 9th of October, we then have a week in a flat in cbd to get over jet lag and get our bearings. We then move onto the jolly swagmens for 16 nights.
Then... Well then I hope we will have found somewhere haha. We are working in aus to try and balance the books as best we can.
Any plans where you want to go long term?

We are both 22, we thought that might go against us but you build a profile and upload pictures and it seems to have worked in our favour! How old are you?
We wanna see everywhere eventually, we will spend the most time in Sydney we think but our plans are just to go with the flow as much as we can :-) You'll have been in Sydney about a month by the time we get there you can be our tour guides haha ;-)

We haven't done nearly enough planning to do the world. We are setting aside this year to get the furthest continent out of the way.
Australia through to end of January, then work up the coast. Fiji Islands through to malaysia, hopefully vietnam and some of China before heading home. Maybe depending on finances do some volunteer programs etc. We will most certainly be going with the flow at the end of january haha.
We are 23 and 24, I'll be on to that website today and get profile building you have definitely given me a bit more confidence about it.
Oh yeah totally! You'll have to let us know where you'll be staying when you get there. I've had so many people telling me where I should go and all the non tourist beauty spots etc etc.
You looking to work in Aus? Any ideas what? I am genuinely aiming for the most random job i can find XD I saw one advertised to be a pirate in sydney harbour the other day .. It annoyed me I wasn't there already cause that sounded amazing haha
Well you have more planned than us, that sounds like an amazing trip! We don't plan well enough for that we just get a rough idea (like Australia for a year) then go with it. We only decided to go Australia about a month ago haha. I've always wanted to do them volunteer programs, when I left college I very nearly went Kenya on a safari one but I couldn't save up the money haha
We will be working in Sydney. I want to do jobs that I'd never do at home (like being a pirate haha that sounds awesome!) but we want the option to extend our visa into a second year if we like it there so picking fruit etc is very likely what we will be doing.. As long as I don't bump in to too many spiders! God help me, I'm a wimp with spiders.
So many people keep telling us we need to spend at least 3/4 months over near perth and along the west coast so I definitely think we will be out there longer than a year if we can.. Unless we hate it or get too home sick but I think that's very unlikely.
We don't know exactly where we will be but we know it's somewhere near Bronte Beach.
Have you started planning what you're taking with you? Clothes and essentials etc.. It's going to be so stressful when we come to pack.. Chris is useless and I like to overpack haha
