Being Indian, I like every bit about India. Good or bad, but its where I belong. It's like being home. Many countries fascinate me and I so very want to travel to the country side of Europe or feel the lavish Paris. Explore Turkey some day or may be, bathe in Seychelles. List is long! But until I experience anything of that, I am keen to know what of India would appeal to the foreign travelers. We hear a lot of things from media, from friends, from many sources like Travellerspoint or similar and we perceive. The ones may be pretty good in researching and their perceptions are formed accordingly. But what really do you find interesting or calling when it comes to Indian tourism.
In one honest but short sentence: Tigers and Food!
That's not to say there isn't more than that in your fantastic country, but I am less appealed to cities, culture and beaches.
And truth be told: I haven't visited large parts of India (yet). I would love to visit the Himalayas and Kerala.
Kerala! so much to see, and so much natural beauty, and amazing food!
And Goa! especially at the end of the year!

Oh ya.., we have quite a good number of wild tigers. Isn't it? I guess half of total in world There are numerous wild life reserves and parks, but I guess Ranthambore National Park (Rajasthan), Bandhavgarh and Kanha National Park (Madhya Pradesh), Jim Corbett National Park (Uttaranchal) are among the best for tiger spotting. Interestingly, you can club this with many other sights to get the best of your tour. Madhya Pradesh is also popular for Khajuraho monuments that are UNESCO world heritage site. Rajasthan is known for its heritage, history and deserts. Uttaranchal is the pure Himalayan state, that can add to your visit to Corbett.
Kerala is a different tourism altogether. It has greenery, vast back waters, welcoming people and most of all SPICES & AYURVEDA! Kerala's vision of eco tourism has appealed many inland and foreign natives. But for your purpose, Periyar Wildlife Reserve must be included.
Talking about Himalayas, allow me to include the lower Himalayan ranges forming very scenic place Jammu and Kashmir. Undoubtedly, Jammu and Kashmir claims the top position in abundance of nature coupled with mysticism and wonders.

Indeed.. Kerala is beautiful Both Goa and Kerala have some of best sea foods available.
If you love nature, then consider Spiti (Himachal) or Bhaderwah (J&K)
Bhaderwah is more for natural homestay experience

Oh! That is quite energising ceremony. Though it sounds absurd to me that even borders have become part of tourism. I so very look forward to the time when whole world gains wisdom to undivide and live in peace

hello there .. my husband and I spent 6 weeks in India in 2013, and loved every aspect of it!
If I was to call out some of our highlights, and the most memorable parts of the trip, I would say :
Agri and the Taj Mahal. Absolutely amazing - breathtaking actually.
We loved Jaipur and the Rajistan region. So much colour and the food was amazing in these regions, even took in a movie. Couldn't understand a word, however the cinema itself was magnificent.
Our all time favourite was north, Shimla. Amazing sights, food and the people so friendly.
We look forward to visiting again sometime, and reconnecting with the many friends we made.

Yes, indeed India is beautiful so much so that every nook surprise you. The places that you mentioned are among the top destinations from the point of foreign travelers. However, the local flavor is well captured in countryside/ hill side locations in all directions. I love Jaipur too, and Barmer (surprisingly the remotest district of Rajasthan, India) has surprised me so much with its virgin deserts, sand dunes and village lifestyle.
