Hey everyone
Hey!
I'm afraid I've no advice on hostels. But maybe trying a house sitters website would be good? We are signed up to one and there's been loads of houses put on recently for over Christmas and new year. It wouldn't be full of people and atmosphere but if budget came into it its a great way to save some pennies.
Also, we are there for Christmas and new year so we could definitely make some plans and meet up! There's two of us, me and my boyfriend, both 22. It's my birthday Christmas eve so that whole week being on our own will be scary! It would be good to stay busy maybe with new friends.

Hey Lydia, I bit the bullet and booked Wake up Sydney for Xmas and new year. Course, would be great to meet up. Feel free to add me on Facebook and we can speak nearer the time? Jonno Wilson
Yeah I've seen that mentioned by a few people as a good place. Sounds great, we will be in Sydney from early November.
Speak soon!

Note that if you intend to stay in a hostel for NYE, you should book as soon as possible, since that's crazy popular, and most places will long since have been booked solid. (Of course if you arrive in early November, you might be looking to stay in a share house by then, in which case never mind me.)
I've got mine sorted 😊 can't wait!! Are you there for new year?
Good to hear! And sadly, no - I'm just here (on the forum) for dispensing advice and reminiscing (did my WHV 10 years ago, with further trips 7 and 2 years ago).
Wow well travelled! Any places you'd definitely recommend to go in Australia then?
That depends so much on what your interests are... But for me, with mostly interests in hiking and nature, highlights were Cradle Mountain National Park in Tasmania (lovely mossy forests), the platypuses at Eungella National Park, Port Elliot (the lovely ramshackle YHA and superb swimming in Horseshoe Bay), the Pinnacles Desert, and the amazing Shipwreck Coast part of the Great Ocean Road (also be sure not to miss the lovely loop track of Mait's Rest, just east of the road down to the Cape Otway lighthouse (which itself is not to be missed for the many koalas you can find there (watch for bare tree branches))). Oh, and in Sydney, Glebe Point Road with its lovely bakeries and used book stores. Also the cheesecake at the Quarry Restaurant in Hall's Gap in the Grampians. And I suspect that with better luck with weather than I actually had, I would've loved Magnetic Island. (And above all: New Zealand!)
Well that's a good list haha thankyou!! I'll look into them all! I don't think we will have time for new zealand, so far we have Adelaide and Sydney planned and that's 5 months gone, there's just so much to see and do! I can't wait 😊
