Camping/Fall Work in California?

I am planning an excursion in the West Coast starting in the next month or so, I have a few questions to any of those experienced.

Camping is not just available in national forests, but also in many state parks.

I'd maybe check with local farmer's markets to get connected to farms.

Things will be slowing down come October when everything is harvested.

I've camped heaps all over the west coast - I think it's often fairly easy to find camping. You might want to consider couchsurfing, too!
