I've got a couple of days in Playa del Carmen at the beginning of January and would like to visit Chichen Itza for a day. Can anyone recommend a tour company? I know there are loads that do it, but I'd quite like a smaller group, and perhaps one with a guide who has some archeological knowledge about the ruins. So far I've found one called Yuka Treks who look good.

I rented a car and drove my family there myself. They have a bookstore on site that has all kinds of pamphlets that tell everything you need to know about the site.
Unfortunately you can no longer climb up on the main large pyramid. There were just too many injuries to people who were not careful and fell down its steep steps.
