Which city is better? I can't decide between these two cities.
couldnt be two more different cities. Austin.
Most people would say Austin, the city of music!
I've lived in both. Just moved away from Houston after being there for 10 years...came to Europe for a stint. Lived in Austin for 5 years before Houston. Husband went to UT there.
These are completely different cities with different vibes. If you are looking for more sight seeing, hill country, good wineries, and several other cool cities and sites not too far away - Austin is your town. Very cool music scene, Alamo draft house, Zilker park. Barton springs, Lake Travis (deepest man made lake in Texas), then you have San Antonio about an hour or so that has the Alamo, fiesta Texas (amusement park). New Braunsfels (sp?) isn't too far either where you can find schliterbaun - water park that is awesome.
If you are wanting a food Mecca - Houston is your answer. Houston has tons of fantastic food of every flavor and nation. Be warned that Houston is VERY large. It take 1.5-2 hours to get from the north side of the city (like The Woodlands area to the southern end like Sugar Land or Clear Lake). Houston has tons of excellent museums and a fantastic theater district, second to New York. There is NASA which is always a must see f you are there. But Houston doesn't have a lot of must see tourist destinations, in my opinion.
Depending on when you are going it will be blazing hot in the summer. Houston is also a lot more humid than Austin. Both have their interesting points. Just depends on am what you want to visit them for.
