Hi all,
My husband and I are planning our honeymoon for the last 2 weeks in August. We're thinking of flying into NYC and making our way down (driving)to Florida, flying out of Miami. We really have no solid plans, just looking to drive and explore and take in some awesome sights and scenery. Washington DC sight seeing is something we'd like to do, but we'd also like to find some seaside towns and B&Bs. It's gonna be smoking hot the farther south we go, so any recommendations re: "too hot - see more things north" would be taken into consideration too. Any recommendations re: little islands or awesome "weekend getaway" spots we should make our way to would be appreciated as well. We are from a seaside town in Atlantic Canada so something diff than Cape Cod would be of interest.
Thanks!!
I suggest stopping at some of the following places:
Mystic, Connecticut--where there is an old whaling port (and a submarine you can tour nearby in Groton, CT)
New York city--Times Square, a rock or jazz club down east of Times Square
Washington, DC--Air and Space Museum, the Capital Building, the White House, Lincoln Memorial and the National Mall. Good places to eat all over also.
Williamsburg, VA is interesting, as they have kept it exactly as it was in the 1600-1700s including having actors there everyday playing the roles of some of the American revolutionaries, church pastors, everyday workers, etc.
Charleston, South Carolina--very historic with lots of great old homes and shops
Orlando, Florida--not only Disney World, but also Church Street, Universal Studios, Sea World and nearby the space center.
Other possible places to visit are Myrtle Beach, SC (Hilton Head); Savannah, GA; Daytona Beach, FL; Harpers Ferry, WV (just a ways west of W(Washington DC), or Anapolis, MD (just a ways east of Washington DC)
Also, if you are history buffs--there is both Gettysburg in Pennsylvania, Yorktown in Virgina, and Charlottesburg in VA.
