===Right i know this is going to sound a bit odd lol but where as majority of people on her are talkin about travelling from like 6months to a year im looking to travel for about 4-5 years not fully planned every where i want to go but is there anyone else who wants to do this or have dome somthing similir to this that could give me tips please
Hi Mike,
I travelled for more than 2 years and I would say some of the most amazing routes would include:
Asia-Pacific: Turkey, Georgia, Syria, Jordan, Iraqi Kurdistan, Iran, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, China, Pakistan, India, Nepal, back to China, Laos, Thailand, Burma, Malaysia, Singapore, Philippines, Indonesia and Papua New Guinea.
South America: Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Chile, Argentina
I found Central America is less interesting after a long trip.
I have a friend who travelled on the east of Africa: Egypt, Sudan, Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania, Malawia, Zimbabwe, Namibia, Botwana and South Africa. He said his favourite was: Sudan and Malawi.
I would like to travel once along west Africa from Marocco to South Africa. This is a very little travelled route.
The timeframe you are considering would allow you to do a real around-the-world bicycle trip, covering full length of american continent (1.5-2 yrs), asia-pacific (1.5yrs) and africa (0.5-1.0yr).
The advantage of cycling you get to know and experience much more than backpackers or even motobikers. It offers a true adventure, where challenge is there for everyday - which will be very important on a long run. You will also get to the most remote and beautiful parts of the world. And you get the greatest treatment from locals.
Most cyclists live from less than a GBP 8-10 / day - covering your lodging, meals, drink and visas. With camping you can save even more, and can afford spending longer time in more expensive destinations.
Most people I met who had been on the road for many years were: cyclists, motorbikers, hitchers. And some backpackers who basically do spending lengthy times circling around in India, South East Asia - but usually they don't really go around and explore the world.
Let me know if you opt for cycling or have any questions.
Safe and happy travels!
Thanks for that, to tell the truth i havent really considered travelling by cycling but it definatly an option to think about. The main places i wanted to go really was first every continent so would cycling really be practical ??
You could do a truly epic around the world trip in 4 years. The only problem, of course, would be paying for it.
If I had that much time:
I'd travel through North and South America, from Inuvik, on the Arctic Ocean, to Tierra del Fuego, the southernmost tip of South America.
I'd cross Africa in two great trips:
1. Trans-Sahara: from Morocco to Timbuktu, Mali, and on into West Africa
2. Cape to Cairo: from Capetown, South Africa, to Cairo, Egypt
I would cross Asia several times:
1. Trans-Siberian Railway, from Moscow to Beijing (I've actually done that already)
2. The Silk Road, from Istanbul through the Caucasus and Central Asia to China
3. South from China, through India, Southeast Asia and Indonesia, to Australia
I'd also cycle the perimeter of Australia, and visit the parts of Europe I hadn't seen yet.
