Hi,
I am planning a backpacking trip to Europe probably early next year and need some help picking where to go. However what Im interested in seeing is not the cities but the nature, I like total wilderness, mountains, coastline and wildlife. I like to go hiking, biking and kayaking, cute little local villiages and quircky small hostels are where Id like to stay no nightlife needed!
Im from England so no need to include the UK and Im currently in Germany.
The "Romantic Road" in Bavaria is good.
Have you considered western France?

Many walkers use them too. I have one near me in NW France going inland from Dieppe and few cyclists ever use it. There are places to hire cycles as well as camp grounds.
There are lots of small villages, or you could take a coastal route. Since most people head down south for holidays, you can have all the peace and quietness you want. And as much countryside as you want. Where I live I have about a dozen families within a mile of me.
It's been some years since I was last in Norway but I remember some seriously steep mountains there which I would not like to try hiking up. In summer, down south can get very hot and up north can have walls of ice I drove between (in summer).
The island of Rugen is a nice. It is in the Baltic near the border of Germany and Poland. Jasmund Park is on this island. It is fun to hike down to the beach at the base of the giant chalk cliffs. Plus, it is a UNESCO World Heritage site.....hard to go wrong with those places!
The whole island is very laid back -> Locals don't seem to be busy watching each other all the time as in other parts of Germany... at least during the off season in late September.

If you are currently near Berlin, walking beside the canals in nearby Spreewald (100 km away) is interesting. It is an easy day trip from from Berlin. UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve -> It is a wierd little water world!
I have been to both and they are a great break from the city!

Hey thanx, the island of Rugen and then the ferry looks like a great idea for the start of my trip if I could work it to get a ferry to near Copenhagen where I have a friend to see and then to Sweden hmmm that looks to be a bit more difficult though.
Im currently working near Bonn, Germany but if I get a chance Il be sure to check out the Romantic road that looks very pretty maybe i could do that if I ever get any holidays lol
The cycle route in North West France looks a great way to finish the trip!
Ive just spent my whole day looking into this trip Im just at the start of planning and theres so many places that look amazing but I dont think it will be possible to fit them all into the about 2 months I think I can afford. Its still that middle section of Eastern Europe I cant decide what route to take on? help needed?!
