Essaouria and Gnaoua music.

On our arrival in Essaouira it was obvious to me that we where going to love this small Moroccan fishing village as there where plenty of music vendors selling the local music known as Gnaoua. Myself and my travel partner found it difficult to stay away from these vendors as everytime we walked through the Medina they where playing c.ds compilations from the local Gnaoua festival that plays out for four days in late June every year. The compilations are a fine mix of african and middle eastern sounds with a real urban feel to rival anything from the big citys of the world. The Gnaoua festival has been running for 15 years and draws music enthusiasts from all over africa and the med and best of all is its free, no tcket required. I for one will not be missing this experience in 2013 and will be booking flights and a Riad in Essaouira in June on my return to Englan. Already looking forward to coming back.
