Hi , my names tom im 27 and im planning on being in oz oct 1st for 12 months on a working holiday visa .
Im not planning on staying unless I get lucky and land a top job and love it.
My question is should I get my self a one way ticket or get a return ticket as I dont know the exact date i will be returning.
Has anyone had any expierince in this befor.

Two one way tickets cost a lot more than a return ticket.
Get a ticket with an open return date. When you want to return, be aware there might not be any empty seats available for some days or longer in busy periods so book in advance.
Don't expect too much. Lots of people go to Australia looking for work so you would need some skills for a top job. Two possibilities:

You could try writing to some Australian work agencies before you go.
Thing is my missus is a teacher and im a gas engineer/plumber, dont no if australia are lacking people in these areas of work but besides the point that isnt what we want to do any. We wouldnt really want to do our jobs over there as this year out is ment to be for travelling around doing jobs that we arn't tide into eg fruit picking/barwork/mining all that backpacker stuff. BUT if we happen to love it and one of us ends up being sponsered or we end up staying longer what would be the crack then.
Purchase an open ticket. It may be costly (a bit i think) but then again might as well purchase something expensive than to be stressed out.
Like the others recommend, I'd get a return ticket where you can cheaply change the return dates. Often a return is the same price as a one-way, or only marginally more, on long haul flights like this.
I'm not a fan of return tickets. I don't know why, maybe I just hate being told when to do something! Last year Air Asia were running cheap flights one way from Aus to the UK and back, and they worked out exactly the same price as a return. Trouble is, I guess they were so cheap they didn't make any money on them and have now discontinued the flights! So no good to you now. But Im sure there are other low cost airlines around with good one way deals. You just have to search the individual airline websites.
I think we have had this question before about people on WHV and the general view was that people that have a WHV are not usually asked if they have a return ticket or if they have the required funds for their time in Aus. So you could easily just come on a one way and wing it. I know I just flew back into Aus and wasn't asked for a outward ticket. The only thing you might want to think about is your funds for your stay. If you get a open return then at least you don't have to worry about making sure you save enough to pay for that return flight at some point.
As far as work. There seem to be less backpackers here, so more jobs to go round.
