After 18 long months I have decided a date to leave for oz!! :-O
I haven't booked yet, but I've narrowed down my departure date to January 7th. I'm leaving from Toronto so I won't arrive in Sydney until the 9th. So I'll be arrive the day after you. I might splurge on a hotel the first night, depending how I'm feeling. I do need to find a hostel in Sydney for a few days though - then I'm planning on making my way up to Cairns and travelling down the East Coast. Feel free to send me a message if you have similar plans.

Hi Chris I'm the same! Think I'm going to do ultimate oz on 14th January. So will need accommodation until then! Nice hotel would be nice but mite make hostels look worse! Lol

Hey Michelle, I'm doing UltimateOz December 10th, and you can actually book longer packages than the 7-night if you're getting there early. The staff will set you up at the WakeUp hostel, and I actually just extended my stay there for another week following the intro, UltimateOz gives discounted prices if you book through them (for the week I extended through it came out to $32/night for a 10-bed mixed dorm). So yeah, if you asked them they would book you for the lead up to the intro! Also nice that they make sure you have a shuttle to take you to the hostel from the airport.

I'm also looking at going out sometime in Jan '13, not booked owt yet but I'll definitely be heading out around mid jan. No real plans apart from wanting to learn to surf around surfers paradise/byron bay. Going on my own as well, you all set on doing ultimate oz for those doing it? Is it worth it? I might have to look into that, seems like a decent way of meeting people.
Either way, im out there for a year and plan on working for some of that to get the option of a second VISA somewhere down the line.
Really getting excited now, can't wait to get out there now!

Anthony I Dno if its a good idea but from my point of view is nice bit of security for my first week as I will (like you be all alone! Lol ) I'm hoping to meet some nice people and maybe find some people who want to trek up the east coat with me!!

I used this website loads before i went away, and now i'm on the other end... i was away for a over a year in Asia and OZ and have now been home a few months My advice would be if you feel like it book yourself into a hotel for the first night or two, you wont meet anyone this way but it will allow you to get over the journey, freshen up and be ready to face meeting people in a more compossed state. I had a tour planned so didnt personally do this but if i was do go again i would, my friend (i met there) did and said the same. After that dont book yourself into a hotel for anymore than 5 nights, 10-15 is a long time and if your plans change then it can cost you money/cause problems.
