I always rename my photos giving them a descriptive name.
Have you changed the length of the descriptions? I am pretty sure the system tries to accommodate the original name, provided it's unique, but it might be shortening them because they have crossed some max character limit that's set in our database.
The other thing I can think could cause an issue are the characters which often don't play nice with filenames, specifically the comma and the brackets. I would imagine you have also used those in filenames in the past though, hence my thinking that the length must be the issue here if it's a new problem...
I've tried some tests.
ON THE BULK UPLOADER:
I put a photo with the name as follows on an external drive:
F:/P1180324 Turbojet from Hong Kong to Macau (1) - Jane 1
It was uploaded as:
P1180324_T..1__-_Jane_1.jpg
ON THE SINGLE FILE UPLOADER:
The uploaded file was correct:
P1180324 Turbojet from Hong Kong to Macau (1) - Jane 2
SO, the problem is with the bulk uploader. Can you please fix it? Frankly, if it cannot be resolved I will stop using Travelerspoint.

I just ran some tests. The system picks the first 10 characters of the file name, and the last 11, adding two full stops in the middle if longer. It also replaces spaces and brackets and commas as these can create all kinds of problems.
Both the single file uploader and the bulk uploader do the same thing in order to ensure the filename stays under 25 characters. You can see that for example by right clicking on you uploaded via the single file uploader. The actual filename for the photo has become large_P1180324_T..1__-_Jane_2.jpg (the link is ).
So I guess what you are referring to is the actual Title that is intended to be filled in after uploading, and that we give a suggestion for using the filename? I am 90% certain we can't work around this, as the bulk uploader makes all the changes on your computer before uploading them (ie. we never see your original name), whereas the single file uploader does it all on the server. I will double check this with the developers though.
The uploader we use is used by tons of other sites, so not sure going elsewhere will help, but please feel free to let us know if it does. I only know of one or two other sites that offer private blogging options (let alone everything for free....), and they are pretty terrible on the photo front, but you might get lucky. Alternatively, perhaps Flickr does a better job at the titles and you could still use your blogs (we have a pretty good integration with Flickr's system).
Yes, you are correct in that I want the filename to be the suggested title.
It used to take my exact filename as the suggested title.
As an example, I have an image I uploaded on Sep 30 2012 :
P1170370 Near Oksan Seowon - Jane with wild flowers
It uploaded via the Bulk Uploader with the same name a the title.
The next time I uploaded with the bulk uploader was on Oct 7 2012, it truncated the file name.
P1170374_M..rial_-_Jane.jpg
SO. something changed between Sep 30 and Oct 7.
