Best Thailand-India Travel Method

Expert Asian travelers! I have never traveled anywhere abroad and I want to plan my first trip to Thailand at the end of next year. Does anyone have any simple travel tips or a good itinerary? I am looking to spend most of my time in Thailand (on a beach in an affordable place!) and I know I HAVE to make the trip to Bodh Gaya in India. What is the best, most efficient method to accomplish this?? Also, it will most likely just be me and one other young woman- is that a bad/dangerous idea??

Dont worry about travelling thailand alone there is so many other backpackers you'll be fine also the south is very expensive compared to the north but if you want beaches and parties only then its the place to be! I would recommend travelling as much as this wonderful country as possible and with the whole flight thing i cant really help you out but ive been looking at this website www.kayak.com which seems ok its just a aggragator site for flights etc... also when are you planning to go as I'm heading back out late sept/oct 2013 if you needed a travel buddie

I need a travel buddy for dec 2013 going to asia and anywhere else I might end up! What are ur plans and how long do u plan on staying for??

I guess Thai airways would be better for you, that's the best traveling medium between thailand and India.

im flying to india for oct time then will be in sea from november till march roughly

As mentioned, Thailand is very very easy to travel in solo, and even easier if you are with a female partner (or male, it doesn't matter). You'll be fine. India is also very easy for the independent traveler. Not a bad nor dangerous idea.
It would be a real shame to spend all your time in Thailand just on the beach. The beaches and islands are wonderful and you'll want to check out a couple, but there is so much more to see if Thailand - especially in the historical, jungley north. Depending on how long you are planning on going, I would leave at least a week or two for the north.
Getting to Bodygaya from Thailand is a bit awkward, and it all depend on what else you plan to see if the India.
If that is the only place you plan to see, then I would fly to Calcutta and hop on a train. If you can find a flight to Varanasi, it's quite a bit closer, and Patna is even closer, though I suspect pretty limited on a flights.
But, if you have interest in seeing a bit more of India and are giving yourself a bit of time - a couple weeks at least - then you have lots of options. You could fly into Delhi and do a nice overland trip of Delhi-Jaipur-Agra-Orchha-Khajuraho-Varanasi-Bodhgaya-Calcutta. I did this route once as part of a much longer India trip and it was fantastic.
As for flights, you can check out different options. You could try three one-way tickets (Pittsburgh-Bangkok; Bangkok-India; India-Pittsburgh), but I suspect it will be cheaper in the end to buy a return ticket Pittsburgh-Bangkok. Then look into budget airlines that go from Bangkok. There are a number of them that go to all the major cities in India for quite cheap. So you can find a Bangkok-Delhi, or Bangkok-Calcutta and back ticket no problem. Try AirAsia, IndiGo, or Thai Airways.

i agree fly to bangkok return and then from there fly to other locations its alot easier and a return flight from india to bangkok is roughly £200 to £300 so its not that bad and that trip sounds amazing may need to look into changing my own india trip as i was going to head south for Sri Lanka
