Hi, I am 23 years old and have always always wanted to go traveling preferably to Thailand Australia and Fiji in early 2013. If anyone could give me any kind of advice on booking flights, hotels/hostels and ways to travel around like bus/train etc. also I'm not 100% sure on how much money I would need to take and save up to do all this, I don't mind working while away but would prefer not to. I'm quite happy to stay in hostels and really backpack it out also what would I have to go through to sort everything out ie visas, bank accounts, phone, travel insurance etc (this is the 1st Time I will be doing this so am completely clueless!!) haha
Any input would be muchly appreciated
Thanks jenni
Hey Jen,
Heading to Australia myself, would also love to hit Fiji and Thailand as well they look amazing.
Check the website sky scanner for your flights it's a price comparison site I found it very reasonable.
A guy in work was tell
(Hit post by mistake) a guy in work was telling me the hostels in oz were spot on. A few people have recommended travelling by bus. I'm going with a friend so I think we will travel partly by bus and possibly by plane as the flights are pretty reasonable.
If your not worried about working dont get a years working visa as it will be a waste. Think you can get a tourist visa for 3 or 6 months. Means if you really enjoy your time and when you come home if you decide you wanna go back again to work you can still apply for a working holiday visa. If your not going to work you would need to bring more spending money.
I got my visa from visas4oz but can do it through other sites like STA or through The proper site for australian visas. After my visa was approved they sent my a few tips and helpful information with regards to setting up an australian bank account, SIM cards and websites for insurance. They also said that your covered for some medical things like the equivalent to our NHS.
Hope this helps a little bit!
Awsome!! Thanks, this helps a lot! So where is the best place to fly into oz and how much do u think I will need to take to be able to only work a few months? Have you ever done anything like this before? That's good you have a friend to go, it's a big commitment and good that they are willing to go with! Will be such an experience :D
Hi Jenni,
I'm in the exact same position, Haven't got a clue where to start with the amount that needs organising! Wish I was one of them people that could grab and case and go without worrying lol!. Going to watch your post and see what advice you get!
by the way jen, how long are you planning to travel for?
Leah
Hey jenni! I'm in the same position, heading to aus in January alone. Look up ultimate oz, it's an intro week in Sydney and they help set you up with a visa, phone, bank account, accomodations, etc as well as do a tour for your first week! I get to Sydney January 26th and am doing this tour starting January 28th. Where are you looking to start and travel to in Australia?
Hey, yeah some one told me about that oz intro thing, it's supposed to be fantastic! I'm not entirely sure where I am going to go, may just get on the plane and see where my money takes me, want to go for at least 7months so need to decide on how much I need to take with me. How about you? Where are you starting and hoping to go?
Hey guys,
I was in ur same position 3 years ago. Alone and traveling to Nz from uk. I was so worried and over planned everything! The second I got here all plans went straight out the window and I met people and just went along with them!! So my advice just get on a plane and go, first stop Sydney, as soon as u get to the back packers u will meet so many people that all have heaps of dif plans n they will more then welcome u along I'm sure. Coming travelling on my own was the best thing I ever did n have never looked bk since, and am now a Nz resident. I know it seems scary at first but it really isn't as soon as u get to oz u will be wondering what all the fuss was about. Prices are very similar to uk so budget as tho u was bk home just cheaper accommodation if u stay in bk packers. I left uk with 1500 pounds travelled all round for 3 months then got a job bar tending n found a flat. I really can be that simple. I'm off to gold coast (sufers) for new years in couple of weeks. Can't wait!! Good luck and enjoy every second as it goes so fast!! :-)
Hey jenni,
That's awesome, good to not have it planned too much. I'm only there for 3 months so want to go to melbourne, Sydney, and Brisbane for sure. And some of the little places in between Torquay, Byron bay, surfers paradise, noosa etc. When are you looking at arriving?
