Hey there.. I'm looking to make friends from all over the world. That'd give me an excuse to travel seeing as I've always feared setting out on adventure on my own. I'm a student, 20yrs of age and doing my last year in university in South Africa. I'm origanally from Botswana. I'm fun, likable and totally awesome!! Hahaha...Its been a lifelong dream of mine to travel but leaving a life behind to travel is not really African culture. I think I've done my best to be the young lady my parents have always expected me to be and now its time to press pause on all seriousness and live my dream. Only problem now is, I don't know where to start. Or how.
Hey Bridget :-)
To start do some reading - wikitravel or lonely planet or here. Get some ideas for destinations you'd like to see. Most places have a backpacker hostel scene.
The usual start points are Europe or Australia/NZ and Thailand, but then most first-time travellers are from western countries so what interests them may not interest you. What things appeal most? History, architecture, scenery, partying, action and adventure?
I've always wanted to start in europe. I was in Spain last year and absolutely loved it so I'm thinking a euro tour would be what I'd like to start with. I like adventure and history. Experiencing different cultures is more my thing. So Asia would also be part of it. I was thinking of starting in May of 2013. Is that good time?
Any time's a good time to travel! :-)
May's a great time to visit Europe - winter well past but not yet baking hot. Don't miss Venice or Rome. Interrail or eurail passes are maybe the best way to dot around Europe, worth investigating.
