Apparently there are buses from Whangerei to Tutukaka in the summer but I can't find any timetables and I haven't done it myself. If you're a customer of "Dive Tutukaka" (Tutukaka's all about diving and going out to Poor Knights Islands - one of the best dive places in the world) then they have a free shuttle bus service.
If you want to hire a car from Auckland (good if there's more than one of you) then try or who are usually much cheaper than the multi-nationals.
Some people hitch-hike - that's up to you! Enjoy NZ!
yes buses else hire car for the conveyance i think but if it not your budget then bus would be the better option and yes for the information of the route of the whangerei from the aukland

That's exactly what I want to do I want to go up there for Diving. I have seen some dive agencies which I cotacted and Dive Tutukaka was one of them. However this is the most expensive one and the shuttle service is not free But I will wait for an answer of all the companies and book with the one that feels the best for me.

Yes, just found out that Dive! Tutukaka have now started charging for the shuttle service from Whangerei to Tutukaka - NZ$20 for a round trip which takes about half an hour each way. There's not much that's cheap in New Zealand!
It may be worth your while knowing that there's a good snorkel and dive site about half way between Auckland and Whangerei - Goat Island. You can park at the waterside and walk straight in with your snorkel or air-tanks. Obviously it's not quite as good as Poor Knights but it's a great deal cheaper (free if you have a snorkel and mask) and there are loads of fish right between the mainland and island. Google Maps "Goat Island, Leigh"

Thanks very much. The shuttle service is indeed 20 NZD (I already got a reply from them). I think I will rent a small car from juicy rental.

Although I will go diving for sure because I don't get the opportunity every day and i read it is in the top 10 dive spots of the world
