Golden Triangle India

Good evening

This is usually a great source for all things train but I don't know if it will answer any of your question. Perhaps

Steve

Good evening

looking at a 2 week trip to the Golden Triangle in India in April of 2015 and looking for some advice on travel between the following places.

Delhi
Agra
Jaipur
Richard

Hi Richard, 2 weeks for just Golden Triangle is a bit too much, I've been to these places recently and my idea is that 3-4(max 5 days in Delhi is enough, for Agra if you are not willing to pay 750Indian Rupees twice,thrice.. one daytime is enough cause there is not much to see other than Taj Mahal(but of course it's enchanting) and Jaipur, I guess 2nights stay would be enough if you are not a shopping maniac(leather and jewellery and material stuff are amazing there but I had 2 daytime and that was even enough) in short 6 to max 10days is the best

Is there somewhere in particular I can get a train timetable including stops between these destinations?
When buying train tickets online do you organise to collect these at the station or is it advisable to just turn up and buy a ticket for a journey later that same week?

Regarding car/driver hire is that something that can be booked via a website/travel agent. Concerns here would be safety and trustworthiness.

Is there a "standard" taxi rate, eg. hourly cost, distance cost etc?

Many thanks in advance for your help. We're still weighing up the option of going it alone vs organised tour.
Richard

We were two Turkish girls who were scared like hell, universe sent us the greatest indian guy ever as a taxi driver, I'm still in touch with that amazing person, I can assure you will have the trip of your life with him, you can bargain on price over his phone number before you go there and he'll pick you up from the airport and take you all those places, he'll just be your guide, driver, father, security guy etc etc but he'll be your friend at the end I can assure you=) and he'll take you to his home when your trip ends, introduce you his children and wife, finally you will write about those great memories in his journal for his clients and maybe cry:p Anyway, pm me if you are interested and believe me he is not my relative or I'm not getting commission from this advertisement of him!:D we met him there by just coincidence but I'm still thanking my God for that coincidence so that I had an amazing India memory (actually trying to get back asap these days)

Btw there are too many other details on the topics that you mentioned, I think since I just got back home from India, having travelled thru the exact route (in october) we can talk in detail via pm, I would love to be of any help,

Wish you a great journey, sure thing actually=)

For trains in India, have a look at where you can find the times of trains and the cost of a ticket, depending on how you want to travel. We found the sleeper cabins excellent for a good night's sleep while getting about.

For trains, www.irctc.co.in is the official website of Indian Railways. It is always advisable to book tickets in advance. Time tables with intermediary stations can be accessed from this site.

Once you've made your online booking, e-ticket can be generated . A print out of the same shall be enough for your travel. If an Indian mobile number is registered while making your booking, you can receive a message in that number. Even the message will be enough for you to travel.
