Hi, I'm travelling on my own to Thailand, mostly Chiangmai in Jan/February 2015. Just looking for people to meet up with there, to eat, drink, chat, shop, tour. First time there, I do know one person staying there for the winter but would like to meet others. So if you're going to be there then, please let me know. Lots of retirees visit Thailand; couples, divorcees, widows and widowers too. You can sign on to tours after you get to Thailand through hotel tour desks or local travel agencies. Choose a tour from their list the day or night before and leave following morning. They pick up at your hotel and return you there when over.
You should have a good time. For Bangkok maybe choose a hotel where you can also use the Skytrain and other city rail service to get around easy. (Maybe Siam or Asoke area.) Meter taxis are reasonably priced providing you use the meter and not go for a set rate. In Chiang Mai I used hotels in the Thapae Gate area. Restaurants you can walk to, travel agencies for tours, Seven Eleven stores and you can walk to Night Market, etc.
You will meet other tourists on shared tours. Thailand is easy to do on your own too.
