planning to travel to Venezuela For Christmas/ New Yrs

wonderz2014 has indicated that this thread is about Venezuela

The friend you're going to hang out with is Venezuelan and lives there full time with family, yes? Otherwise I can't imagine why you're going there for 25 days...

Maracaibo was dump when I was there a few years ago and I can't imagine it's any better now. Punto Fijo is a way better location to spend the majority of your time. There's some cool places and great beaches in that area, but like anywhere in Venezuela you have to keep your wits about you.

Have fun. Venezuela has a horrible reputation which I think is largely exaggerated for tourists, but it does have a mean streak where unrelated/unpredictable crime happens all the time, everywhere.

Travel safe and have fun.

Cheers,
Terry

Yes she is. The thing is I could not get any flights to her nearest airport(plus she has family in Maracaibo). I really don't plan on staying in Maracaibo for long. The problem is the website/airline. I was thinking of backing out of the trip or just making it shorter, due to the fact I don't know if I can get accustom or blend in with them. I'm a Spanish speaker myself, but the accent is surely unique and different. Punto Fijo is 5hrs away in a bus from Maracaibo. I'm really hoping Christmas/ New Yrs is calm over there. But in the end I am doubting myself out of this vacation trip & might try to somehow get my money back(even though I really doubt I can at this point).
I also do really want to visit/meet her but feel like I will stand out too much in the cities as a foreigner.

Since your friend is a local and you'll be surrounded by her family then I'm sure you'll be fine. That said, who wants to be smothered by family for the entire 25 days of your vacation...

It's a tough call either way. Good luck with your decision.

Cheers,
Terry
