Hey y'all. I'm considering booking a long weekend in either Zanzibar or Cape Town for late November. I am currently in Malawi, will be until late December, and only have the time to do one of the mentioned trips. I know they are very different places, which is partially why the decision is so hard. I would love to hear any advice. A holiday on the beach in Zanzibar sounds great, but I also spent 3 weeks in SE Asia this spring, and it sounds similar. On the other hand, I've heard that Cape Town, while a cool place, is another beach town.
Cape Town is a large modern city with an ocean front, very nice some touristy things to do and a walking city so good for a short break.
Zanzibar is a totally different kettle of fish, firstly you need to get there by ferry (which can take some time with the crowds) or plane which will cost more.
Wonderful island amazing beaches, great sun set, a photographers dream, not a quick 2 nighter.
I'd do Cape Town and put Zanzibar on the bucket list.
I agree with Jeanie99. Cape Town has amazing beaches, but there's lots more, including vineyards and wineries, a fabulous botanical garden, Table Mountain, the Cape of Good Hope, etc. Getting around is easy.
