One Way ticket/4 Months SEA

Alicia3 has indicated that this thread is about Thailand

Two one way tickets are expensive. You would have been better buying one with an open return date.

I have been to Thailand many times and though at immigration they ask where you are going next, I have yet to have one to ask for evidence. Bangkok is a travel hub and many people leave there by air, train and bus for many different destinations, booked in a Thai travel agent.

You get 30 days visa waiver on arrival and now for 1900 baht, that can be extended for another 30 days. Malaysia is no problem. Cambodia is US$30 on arrival. Indonesia is no problem either if you do not spend too long there. Possibly buy a Lonely Planet guide as the islands have a lot to offer.

Many millions travel to these places every year. Obey the customs and laws and you will be OK. Do be careful of petty theft. Get a money belt or something and be VERY careful of who you trust and drugged drinks. Do not leave a drink and go to the toilet. Someone could put something in it.

Weather is variable before December, so you can get wet days and dry days. The rain water evaporates quickly. A small umbrella may be handy. A can of mosquito spray is a good investment but of course cannot be taken onto airplanes. Talcum powder is good for heavy perspiration. Remember the traveller's cure for diarrhoea. A small spoon full of salt washed down by a sugary drink.

Hostelbookers, asiarooms, booking.com, agoda, etc have accommodation. Book your first few nights at least.

I didn't realize I could purchase an open ended return ticket..I got a good deal for being under 25 on my plane ticket. Bummer, true to research as much as possiblE. I'm not as worried about thai immigration as I am the airline. Thank you!

How long will you be in Thailand before leaving for another country? How many days in total at one time after arrival?

{Flying from the US I have been asked for a visa or proof of onward travel! }

With a US passport and staying over 30 days you can buy a Tourist Visa ahead of time. Thirty days or less for the free Visa Exemption you are SUPPOSED to have a confirmed flight out of Thailand. This is more enforced in the US than some other countries. (Although I have been asked for confirmed flights out of the Philippines too when flying from Bangkok.)

Check with your airline. Your airline ticket agent is the first person who may turn you back or you will be forced to buy an expensive plane ride out of Bangkok. If your departure airport is convenient to where you live take a subway ride or cheap bus trip there. Talk to an agent in person if you want.

Usually round trip is cheaper than 2 one way flights using major airlines from the US. My preference would be to have definite return date. This gives you a point of return for planning a budget. Also with a definite return date you know how much money you have available after paying for plane tickets.

  • How much money have you planned on spending each day for accommodation, food, transportation and entrance fees? Thailand and some of the nearby countries can be cheap but not that cheap! You shouldn't be sleeping in crappy places with one eye open so you can protect your belongings. Or sweating in rooms without A/C that have window screens that don't keep anyone out! Eating crappy food because it is cheap gets a little tired after a while! If you don't have enough money for a cheap hotel and other expenses don't stay so long overseas!

How do I prove I have proof of onward travel?
(Plane tickets are proof of transportation out of Thailand.)

Two things that affect the safety and finances of a female tourist; one is drinking too much alcohol and two falling in love with a local guy! (Sort of adopting him and then he bleeds you dry financially!)

Have you figured out how much money you THINK you can get by with each day?

Malaysia you can reach overland. For Indonesia I think you should fly or save that country for another day.

Bangkok, by the way, can be much cheaper than some beach locations. Don't go all the way to Thailand and not see Bangkok!
