Ecuador travel

Hello, we are planning to visit Ecuador in November and I will be very grateful if experienced people can share information. We are looking for good and reasonably priced company for Galapagos hopping tours.
Also we are planning to drive from Guayaquil to Quito through Vilcabamba, Loja, Cuenca, but a read that roads are pretty bad. Is anybody have experience of hiring local driver to take you places and what is a approximate pay per day.
Or maybe recommend a local tour company who we can collaborate with? Thank you in advance

Hi - we were in the Galapagos eighteen months ago. Rather than cruise around the islands, we found it cheaper to use the inter-island ferries. We flew in to Baltra had a few nights at Puerto Ayora on Santa Cruz, then took the ferry from there to Puerto Villamil on Isabela for a few days. Then, to get to Puerto Baquerizo Moreno on San Cristobal we had to go via Puerto Ayora again. We flew out from San Cristobal. From memory, the return fares are about US$50 and the single fare about $35. We found this perfectly adequate to see the different islands and from which to do trips to the lava tunnels and Kicker Rock and a great deal cheaper than the rates we were quoted for cruising. Enjoy your trip!

Thank you very much for very helpful information.

If you take a tour of the Galapagos then you need to expect to spend a large part of your budget - no tours are what you would call cheap, although you can save money by taking a shorter tour on a smaller boat, with a minimum of organized excursions. However, if this is likely to be the only time you visit Ecuador I would save up and spend a little extra. You can save money by taking local buses to get through Ecuador on the route you say. You don't really need a driver - buses will take you wherever you need to go as they link up the main places on the tourist itinerary.
